White Island is an amazing place to visit both topside and below the surface.
Travelling in our fast comfortable boat toward the brooding, moody volcano we call White Island (or Whakaari, as she is known in Maori).
The volcano island is estimated to be about 200,000 years old. It was named White Island by Captain Cook in 1769, who was believed to be the first European to sight the island.
Having a very rich history topside, the underwater world has remained virtually in it’s pristine condition. Underwater vents remind us that we are diving the waters surrounding a live volcano.
